Interlibrary Loan Book Policy
Roosevelt University provides its students and faculty with interlibrary loan service in two methods: OCLC and I-Share. To view the library's policy in regards to I-Share Interlibrary Loan, click here.
OCLC Interlibrary Loan
Some interlibrary loan items are requested and received through the nation wide library lending consortium OCLC. The due date for OCLC items are set by the lending library and MUST be complied with. Failure to comply with specified due dates can result in Roosevelt University Library losing interlibrary loan privileges, which means that NO Roosevelt patron will be able to borrow materials. Specified loan periods will vary from library to library.
OCLC Renewals are at the discretion of the lending library and are NOT guaranteed. Patrons must make a request with the Interlibrary Loan department at the Roosevelt campus where the request was made 5 days before the item is due. The library staff will inform patrons by email or phone as to whether or not the lending library has granted a renewal.
It is the responsibility of the patron to keep track of the due dates. Patrons will NOT get notices from the library for overdue OCLC items.
Upon request, if the item cannot be renewed from the original lending library the Interlibrary Loan Department will make an effort to request the same item from a different lending location. However, the Interlibrary Loan Department cannot guarantee additional requests will be fulfilled.
Failure to return an item within 10 working days after the noted due date will result in anonrefundable fixed $60.00 fine per item and suspension of additional interlibrary loan privileges. Privileges will be restored upon the return of the book AND payment of the $60.00 fine.
Unpaid fines will result in a “Hold” being placed on student accounts which will prevent the registration process and transcript requests until the item is returned to the library AND the fine is paid.
I-Share Interlibrary Loan
Generally, books are loaned for a 4-week period and can be renewed twice for an additional 8 weeks. RU faculty have a 16-week loan period and books can be renewed twice. All RU students, faculty, and staff can renew their books requested through I-Share by accessing My Account.
Note: Some items cannot be renewed. They may have been requested by another patron, of the owning library may have set a limit on the number of times they can be renewed before they need to be returned. If you see the Not Renewed message, your item(s) could not be renewed at this time, and must be returned by the original due date. If you have questions about why your renewal attempt did not succeed, please contact the library.
All books are due on the date designated in I-Share's My Account. Roosevelt University library provides a 30-day grace period for the return of books borrowed through I-Share. Books returned after the 30-day grace period will incur a $5 fine per item.
