Roosevelt University

This site will act as your guide to the wide variety of technology that Roosevelt University provides to help and your students in your classes.  The links and sub-links will deal with in-classroom technology as well as the support for the other aspects of teaching that occor outside of the classroom.  Because of the importance of electronically supported communication in the University environment today, a fair portion of the information linked to in this section of the handbook is also found in the Communication section.

Learning Management Systems

Chief among the tools for your use in teaching are the Roosevelt University Learning Management Systems (LMS):  Moodle and Blackboard.  These systems allow you to post assignments, reading materials, interesting YouTubes and perform a variety of other online activities to keep your students more constantly engaged.

Classrooms

Nearly all Roosevelt Classrooms are equipped with some level of digital technology.  There are still a few which require  a computer and projector to be delivered.  The delivery and set up are all taken care of by the Multi-Media Systems (MMS) section of ITS.  On that site you will find the policies and request forms that you will need for any in-classroom technology.

Interactive White Boards

In addition to the regular computer technology installed in most classrooms here, the University also has two different styles of Interactive White Boards - often called Smartboards - installed in a few rooms.  If you wish to teach in one of these classrooms utilizing this technology, please talk to your Dean about getting your class scheduled in one of these rooms.  Then, please contact the Office of Instructional Technology (Dave Basener at  312 341 3654) to schedule training.

Lecture Capture

Roosevelt University providesmultiple mechanisms for recording lectures.  These can be short segments dealing with particular topics which you know students will want to refer to, or entire class lectures.

Office Hours

Technology can even help you with your office hours, especially if you teach and have students on multiple campuses.  Using Adobe Connect from your home or office your can invite students into your AC "room" at specific Online Office Hours times.
