Information Technology Services supports web sites for all faculty and instructors. Roosevelt University has chosen WordPress to host faculty websites in order to provide a platform for student discussion and learning. sites.roosevelt.edu
Roosevelt University faculty members are encouraged to create their own faculty website for instructional and professional engagement. The Office of Academic Technology Solutions supports the creation and management of faculty websites. New users can request an account by submitting a technology ticket through the Information Technology Services link on the main page of the RU website under Faculty and Staff.
Faculty web sites provide essential communication to students and others regarding unique attributes of the faculty member. Information beyond a syllabus which includes such topics as instructor goals, beliefs and attitudes toward teaching and learning can be engagingly communicated on the faculty website. The faculty website can be a way for students to get to know their professors and offer the perspective of the professor as a unique individual. Students need to understand why faculty teach in order to promote approachability and foster a personal relationship with the instructor.
Current research indicates that effective faculty websites offer access to course and program information, links to university resources, and contact information for the professor. The elements identified as most significant for students include hyperlinks to and from the department site, faculty email address, syllabi, subject area resources, current office hours, and a sender form for feedback (Heiberger & Vick, 2002).
