Classroom technology to enhance teaching and learning is available for instructors seeking engaging and relevant resources. Most classrooms are equipped with a ceiling-mounted projector, DVD/CD capability, an audio system, and network connection. For details see the Technology by room page. In some cases, computers may not be in a classroom and instructors using these spaces can access a computer using the following methods:
University issued laptops: Faculty members who have a university issued laptop should use this laptop in classrooms without computers.
Academic Technology Solutions laptops (formerly MMS): Laptops are available for check out from the Academic Technology Solutions office. These Windows based machines are used for class and are to be returned to the Academic Technology Solutions office when class is over. These laptops are not available for extended, off-campus, or overnight use. Priority for the use of these computers will be given to those instructors who would otherwise have no access to a portable computer. Submit a separate equipment request for each time a laptop is needed. A driver’s license will be retained as security when the laptop is picked up in the Academic Technology Solutions Office and is returned when the laptop is returned. Laptops are to be picked up and returned by the person requesting the use of the computer.
Mobile PC’s: Mobile Pc’s are available to instructors in teaching spaces without computers. Submit an equipment request for each time a mobile PC is needed. For details see the classroom configuration page or the Technology by room page.
Personal computers: Faculty, staff and students may use personally owned computers on the RU campus within the parameters in full compliance with the Computer and Network Usage Policy. It is the user’s responsibility to ensure that personally owned equipment is appropriate for the intended application and correctly configured for use at RU. Technical support is limited to University-owned equipment and technicians cannot be responsible for the maintenance, repair, or reconfiguration of personal hardware. Users are solely responsible for the security of personal equipment used on the RU campuses.
Note: Adapters for most Mac computers are available from local Academic Technology Solutions Offices. Submit a separate equipment request form for each time an adapter is needed. A driver’s license will be retained as security when the adapter is picked up at the Academic Technology Solutions Office and will be returned when the adapter is returned. Adapters are to be picked up and returned by the person requesting the use of the adapter.
