Panel Discussion: How the Media Covers Elections

Event Date: 10/17/2012
6:00 PM - 8:00 PM

Location: SCH Zurich Alumni Hall (SCH 155)

As the Presidential election approaches, the nation's media is front and center with daily coverage and analysis of every charge, counter-charge, soundbite and gaffe. Have you ever wondered what goes into covering elections? Or how the media makes its decisions on what to cover in a major election like the one upcoming on Nov. 6?

Join the Daily Herald and Roosevelt University's Schaumburg Campus for a spirited panel discussion on Politics and the Media. The discussion will feature opinions and analysis by:

  • Kerry Lester, politics and projects writer for the Daily Herald;
  • Jim Slusher, assistant managing editor/opinion page for the Daily Herald;
  • Madeleine Doubek, former executive editor of the Daily Herald and now chief operating officer for Reboot Illinois;
  • Charles Madigan, presidential writer in residence at Roosevelt, who teaches classes in journalism and politics and is a columnist for the Chicago Tribune.

The Politics and the Media discussion will be moderated by Roosevelt's Paul Green, director of the School of Policy Studies and Arthur Rubloff Professor of Policy Studies.
