Roosevelt University supports environmentally-friendly organizations and actively contributes to an ever-widening web of sustainable communities including students, staff, faculty and associations.

  • RUGreen – a student group fostering awareness of environmental and social justice issues
  • RUrbanPIoneers Community Garden – a group of staff, faculty, students, administrators and friends gardening in Schaumburg
  • Environmental Sustainability Committee – multi-disciplinary group meet monthly to advance sustainability across Roosevelt

Green Building Council Member

Green Building Council Illinois Chapter 

U.S. Green Building Council and USGBC Illinois Chapter

USGBC is a non-profit organization of thousands of members that share the vision to create a “sustainable built environment for all within the next generation”. USGBC partners with EPA’s Green Power Partnership to promotes a global building standard and incentive program called LEED (Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design Green Building System™).

LEED Certified buildings earn certification through gaining points for high performance in human and environmental health by:

  • Conserving water and energy
  • Reducing waste sent to landfills
  • Reducing greenhouse gas emissions
  • Providing a healthy and safer lifestyle
  • Reducing operating costs and increasing building value
Illinois Campus Sustainability Compact Bronze Award

Illinois Campus Sustainability Compact

Presented by the Illinois Green Governments Coordinating Council, the Compact recognizes three levels of participation and encourages universities and colleges in Illinois to incorporate sustainability into their operations, academic programs, student activities and community outreach.

Roosevelt University has achieved Bronze and expects to achieve Gold level by 2015.

The US EPA promotes the use of green power nationwide by providing incentives for partnership including advice, tools and resources. Roosevelt University has been part of the Green Power Leadership Club since 2011.

Conservation@work Initative

This initiative helps support watershed protection efforts and also encourages and recognizes property owners who protect or create nature-friendly sites. Roosevelt’s Schaumburg prairie restoration is certified and represents the University’s stewardship of the land.
