Master of Arts in Reading

Welcome to our website, and thank you for your interest in our nationally recognized M.A. program in Reading.

This flexible, 30-credit-hour M.A. program is designed for licensed teachers and community college instructors who wish to develop expertise in reading, writing and language instruction. Choose the six-course concentration that best meets your needs and leadership aspirations:

  1. Reading Specialist (leads to the IL Reading Specialist Endorsement)
  2. Bilingual/ESL Literacy (leads to the IL ESL/Bilingual Endorsement)
  3. Post-secondary Reading

The four core courses in the program are offered online and are aligned with the International Literacy Association's national standards for reading specialists and literacy coaches. Concentration courses are offered online and at the Schaumburg Campus of Roosevelt University.

The degree may be completed in as little as four semesters. Cohorts begin each fall semester, but it is possible to start in other semesters. Beginning in Fall 2015, the tuition for core courses and the Reading Specialist concentration is $375 per credit hour, or $1,125 per 3 credit hour course. The tuition for the Bilingual/ESL Literacy concentration is just $350 per credit hour, or $1,050 per 3 credit hour course.
