Commerce and Enterprise

The new Bachelor of Professional Studies in Commerce & Enterprise (CMRC) program and the Bachelor of Professional Studies in Commerce & Enterprise Degree Completion blend general business courses with online accessibility and current professional practices. Offered through the College of Professional Studies, the CMRC program includes a core in accounting, economics, marketing, management, organizational behavior, organizational development and ethics. The overall goals of the program include:

  • Providing an overview of the core disciplines and issues within general business;
  • Enabling students to enroll in professional coursework fully online; and
  • Advancing students already working in these fields, or those who want to transition into the fields.

Students are expected to gain an overview of accounting, global economics, marketing, management, organizational behavior, and organizational development. And, students will demonstrate proficiency in critical thinking, reading, writing, and research skills via their general education coursework. More specifically, students will acquire:

  • A fundamental understanding of global economics including international trade;
  • The ability to interpret and analyze a balance sheet, income statement, and statement of cash flows;
  • The basic tools required to evaluate and use statistical analysis;
  • The language and terms of general business;
  • An understanding of enterprise stewardship in the context of our social justice mission;
  • An understanding of the emerging new paradigms of management and the principles of ethical decision-making;
  • An understanding of the basic theory and application of administration and management;
  • An understanding of organizational behavior including the problems of motivation and leadership;
  • An understanding of organization design;
  • The capability for a corporate vision;
  • The theory and practice of marketing;
  • Learning skills for listening, persuasion, and problem solving;
  • An understanding of critical success factors for corporate success;
  • An understanding of corporate cultures;
  • The ability to implement change management in a global environment;
  • The ability to make sound decisions; and
  • The ability to assess strategic opportunities and to provide organizational leadership in the formulation and implementation of sound business strategies.
