Counseling Center Response to recent death of RU student

The Counseling Center would like to join the Roosevelt community in mourning the recent death of RU student, by providing support for any students, faculty, and staff.  It is a difficult time for the university community and we are all impacted in some way by this loss.  We encourage all members of RU who are impacted by this news to seek support from friends, family members, and the Roosevelt family at this time.

Response to a loss or sad news like this can take many forms, and people affected may find themselves feeling sad, tired, angry, confused, and/or other emotions.  You may feel like keeping to yourself a bit more, or you may feel an increased need to talk with others.  There is no one right way to respond to a loss of this kind, and it is important to seek the help you need, whether that be in the next few days or sometime in the future.

We realize this may be a difficult time for those coping with the loss of a member of our community and would like to provide some additional resources that may be helpful in this time of need.

  • The counseling center at the University of Buffalo also provides some information surrounding how to cope with grief and loss following the death of a student.
  • The American Psychological Association highlights information regarding distress following trauma and ways to cope with these feelings.

In addition to the resources listed above, the Counseling Center is happy to serve as one support system during this time.  Counselors are available to talk and provide support to students on a walk-in basis during our consultation hours Monday through Thursday 3:30-4:30pm. If you would like to schedule an appointment to speak with a counselor, please call us at 312.341.3548 or stop by AUD 470 or SCH 114.
