  • Eleven courses in history with an overall GPA of 2.0 and no grade lower than C-.
  • At least 15 semester hours must be taken at Roosevelt; at least 12 of these semester hours must be at the 300 level.
  • Students should work with their advisor to ensure that they take HIST 280 in their sophomore or junior year, as this course will prepare students to write their 300-level research and writing assignments.
  • History has no foreign language requirement, but students intending to do graduate study in history or whose interest is in the study of a foreign culture are strongly advised to take at least two years of a foreign language.
  • Transfer students may substitute a Western civilization survey for HIST 111 and 112.
  • Undergraduate history majors are required to submit the following items to their graduation file:
    1. Final paper from History 280, the required methodology course for all History majors (10-12 pages in length)
    2. Two portfolios that each include at least 12 pages of written work completed for any 300-level history course. To be eligible for inclusion in the portfolio, each assignment must demonstrate the use of historical method and analysis and incorporate primary source analysis.
