MAS 480 SEMINAR IN MUSICOLOGY
This course will chronicle the musical career of Olivier Messiaen (1908-1992), with concentration on his organ music and piano music. Discussion of Messiaen’s Technique de mon langage musicale and analysis of selected pieces will place the composer in context vis a vis the last century. Among the works to be discussed are: Vingt Regards sur L’enfant Jesus, La Nativité du Seigneur, Livre d’orgue, and Catalogue des Oiseaux. Counts as a course in Music Since 1900.
