MAS 471 SEMINAR IN EARLY MUSIC
This course will deal with one very large and one small work of Johann Sebastian Bach: The Mass in B Minor (BWV 232) and the Musicalisches Opfer (BWV 1079). The course will provide in-depth study of these two works, which will, in turn, give insights regarding Bachâ€™s compositional process, possible use of irony, his views on what his music might mean to posterity, among other things. We could call this â€œMacro/Micro Bach.â€

Students must have passed or
or been exempted from MUHL 385 and MUHL 386.
