MAS 471 SEMINAR IN EARLY MUSIC
This course will deal with one very large and one small work of Johann Sebastian Bach: The Mass in B Minor (BWV 232) and the Musicalisches Opfer (BWV 1079). The course will provide in-depth study of these two works, which will, in turn, give insights regarding Bach’s compositional process, possible use of irony, his views on what his music might mean to posterity, among other things. We could call this “Macro/Micro Bach.â€
