Summer Institute in American Culture & Academic English

A two-week intensive ESL program: August 4 – August 15

Violin

ABOUT THE PROGRAM

The Roosevelt University Summer Institute is a two-week, pre-sessional English language program in Chicago for non-native English speakers.  Students may be pursuing a music degree at the Chicago College of Performing Arts (CCPA) at Roosevelt University or be a non-native English speaker in the Chicago area. CCPA students must be starting their studies at CCPA in the Fall of 2014.

This program is designed to welcome students to Chicago, introduce them to the rich cultural life the city has to offer, and orient them to conservatory study in the United States - all while participating in structured English language classes.

Classes are designed to prepare students to use English in academic environments with a strong focus on speaking, listening, and academic writing skills. Students will also participate in fun, experiential learning that introduces them to Chicago and its exciting artistic resources - including museums, galleries and exhibitions, lectures, concerts, and other events. Interactive sessions will also bring students together with the inspiring and dynamic performers, composers, and scholars who teach in the Music Conservatory, encouraging them to explore various musical topics and introducing them to the joys of music-making in the CCPA community.
