Jazz & Contemporary Music Studies


Jazz Studies

The Jazz & Contemporary Music Studies program provides students with advanced instruction in Bass, Drums, Guitar, Piano, Saxophone, Trombone, Trumpet, or Voice.

The Jazz and Contemporary Music Program offers:

- Weekly one-on-one lessons in instrument or voice
- Performances at Chicago’s premier venue, The Jazz Showcase
- Style-based combos coached by top area professionals
- The only vocal jazz program in the city of Chicago
- Courses in improvisation, jazz theory, jazz piano for non-majors, jazz history, and more
- Regular coachings from area professionals in our Friday afternoon Jazz Forum series
- Several Master Classes each semester

Performance & Ensembles

- Style-based combos:
          Swing, Bebop, Hard Bop, Brazilian, Fusion, Free Jazz, ECM, and Contemporary
- New Deal Vocal Jazz ensemble
- Large ensemble
- Latin Jazz ensemble
- Students regularly perform at the Jazz Showcase, Chicago’s oldest jazz venue
- Student groups participate regularly in Elmhurst and Notre Dame jazz festivals
