Professors Ann Brigham, Marjorie Jolles, and Gina Buccola of the Women’s and Gender Studies Program will discuss techniques and strategies for researching and applying to PhD programs.  Topics will include how to select institutions and departments, how to prepare strong applications, and how to write an effective personal statement.  This event is sponsored by the WGS Program and is open to all members of the university community.

A lively panel discussion, moderated by correspondent Laura Washington of the Chicago Sun-Times, includes speakers from: CReATE, Blocks Together Youth, COFI (Community Organizing and Family Issues), Chicago Public Schools, and the Chicago Teachers Union.  CPDU Credits Available from The Roosevelt University Continuing Education Center, College of Education.

Debates and Dialogues: A Symposium for Undergraduate Student Work in Women's and Gender Studies

The second annual WGS symposium featured presentations by students on a variety of topics, including LGBTQ histories, restorative justice projects for girls in CPS, and intersections of institutional race-based and gender-based violence.  The keynote address was presented by Alex Moffett-Bateau, a doctoral candidate at U of Chicago, on "Developing a Vision: On Becoming a Black Feminist in Academia." The symposium culminated in the competitive and much-anticipated WGS trivia luncheon.

“Making History”: A Symposium for Undergraduate Student Work in Women's and Gender Studies

The first annual symposium highlighted undergraduate scholarship and activism on race and gender, transgender advocacy, and feminist qualitative research. In the afternoon, a panel of WGS graduate students discussed the paths that led them to the RU WGS Program and their experiences as feminist activists and scholars. For many, the highlight of the event was the WGS Trivia held during the luncheon. Carrie Brecke, WGS core faculty member and director of the Writing Center, hosted the trivia which consisted of a range of topics, including women athletes, writers, and musicians.
