In honor of Professor Cohen’s 100th birthday, in 2016, we are raising $1M to endow the Science Summer Bridge program in his name. Roosevelt’s innovative Science Summer Bridge program allows new freshman science majors to bond with science faculty and fellow students and to form a science community.
So please help us honor this great and inspiring professor by giving what you can to get us to our $1 million goal by the time Professor Cohen celebrates his 100th birthday.
You can donate online by clicking here. We know that many of you have funny, touching, and inspiring stories about Professor Cohen. Please share them with us by sending them to Jan Parkin at firstname.lastname@example.org.
It is indeed a privilege and pleasure to serve as your President of the South Side Alumni Chapter of Roosevelt University (RU-SSAC). It is my goal and desire to take the platform that the outgoing president, Julius Rhodes, has started and continue to elevate the South Side Alumni Chapter.
While I am serving as your President my goals are simple but impactful. I will be working on 3 goals and objectives. Every initiative I embark on will support my 3-point plan.
My goal is to get more alumni networking, communicating and supporting Roosevelt University. This will be done through membership mixers, the first of which was held in July. There were close to 40 attendees and we collected almost $300 towards Operation 1000. The week after our mixer I ran into two alumni who were at the mixer, one on a CTA bus and one at a local establishment, which proved to me just how small our community is and that we should know each other and support one another.
My second goal is to Build Giving. About 8% of RU alumni are currently supporting our Alma Mater. When the University bids for external funds, funders want to know what percentage of our alumni are donors to the University. Supporting Operation 1000, with a large number of our 7000 South Side alumni members, each giving just $10.00, will increase that percentage greatly and give the University the competitive advantage it needs to obtain additional funding.
Lastly, Operation 1000 will get us to our goal of naming the Harold Washington Student Lounge. As I said, above, we need just 1000 alumni to give a minimum of $10.00 each to reach our goal. Please consider joining us in supporting this initiative, by going on line to Harold Washington Memorial Lounge.
The Leadership Team has been working hard on planning a quality calendar for the next year. We look forward to seeing you at our upcoming events. Our intention is to create programing for all Alumni, events that span from a Night on the Town for recent graduates to Planning for Retirement and Planned Giving workshops, an outing designed for “Over 55”, and Theater Outings. Our next events are a Membership Mixer in Beverly and reserved seating for the SSAC at the November 2nd Lakers basketball game at the new Goodman Center. Details coming soon.
Go Green - Go White!
In honor of the 30th Anniversary of the historic election of the late Mayor Harold Washington, and in recognition of his legacy of inclusiveness and diversity, the South Side Alumni Chapter of Roosevelt University proudly announces, Operation 1000, the Campaign to name the Harold Washington Memorial Student Lounge.
It is important that the legacy of Mayor Washington be remembered, especially in the halls of Roosevelt where new generations of students will be inspired to take up the challenge to advocate for those who are weaker or less powerful. The members of the South Side Alumni Chapter have made a commitment of $10,000 to name a student lounge, located on the third floor of the new Wabash Building, in memory of the late mayor and in recognition of his status as a Roosevelt alumnus, a community activist, and Mayor of the City of Chicago.
Please join us in our quest! If just 1,000 Roosevelt alumni and friends send in $10 each, we will meet our goal. Of course, a larger gift is appreciated but like Mayor Washington, we don't want to leave anyone out and we appreciate all gifts.
To make a donation, click on the following link - and keep his legacy alive.
If you don't want to pay with a credit card, please send a check marked "H.W. Student Lounge" to the following address:
